BIRDWATCHING
One of the main reasons why Charles Darwin got fascinated with the Galapagos, were the birds that live on it. He found enough evidence to support the theory of evolution while studying these animals, specially the finches. The most attractive birds are the Blue Footed Boobies, the Waved Albatross the Flightless Cormorants and the world´s smalest Penguins.
Galapagos Blue Footed Boobie
There are three varieties of Boobies and are related to the Pelicans. Their large feet are used to incubate their eggs. The Blue Footed Boobies and Masked Boobies eggs are nested on the ground, and Red Footed Boobies nest their eggs on the trees. In spite of their funny aspect, the boobies are daring hunters. Their projectile-shaped body has evolved to allow them to perform an unusual fishing style. They dive from the sky at a great speed into the water, folding their wings just before entry. The Boobies can be seen in all the islands of the archipelago, but especially in Genovesa Island.

Galapagos albatros
Waved Albatross are the biggest birds of Galapagos, and one of the heaviest marine birds. They weigh an average of 4 kg (8.8 pounds) and have a wingspan of 2.5 m (16,4 feet). This endemic bird lives in Española Island and can be seen from April through December in Galapagos, the rest of the year they travel around the South Pacific.
WAVED ALBATROSS
Galapagos Penguin
The Galapagos Penguin is a strange member of its cold-water family. They arrived to the islands from the South Pole, thousands of years ago. They live mainly around the Bolivar Channel, between the coast of Isabela and Fernandina Islands, and near the island of Santiago. The Galapagos Penguin is the smallest in the world.
