No
Sea Cucumber fishing in some Galapagos Islands (April 4th, 2002)
There
will not be sea cucumber fishery in Santa Cruz and San Cristobal Islands
this year. April, 4th, 2002
The Participatory
Management Board decided that there will be no fishery of sea cucumber
this year on the sea surrounding Santa Cruz and San Cristobal Islands.
Fisheries
will be allowed on Fernandina and Isabela Islands, last year 94% of
sea cucumbers were extracted from the areas surrounding these last
two islands.
On the surroundings
of Española and Floreana fisheries will be banned because
there is a very low density of this creature.
This proposal
has to be approved by the Interinstitutional Management Authority
to be legal.
