SAN CRISTOBAL
| (Back to destinations) Frigate Bird Hill |
| The hill receives it name because of the two species of Frigatebird that nest there, the Magnificent Frigate and the Great Frigate. This birds frequent the hill at certain times of the year, so it is recomended that you ask a guide before you decide go on a excursion to the hill. The path is 3.5 km long and starts at Grand Hotel. | ||||||||
| (Back to destinations) La Lobería Beach |
| Located just outside of Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, the beach offers you the chance to share the shore with sea lions. If you choose to stay until sunset be prepared to see the sea darken from crystal clear to deep purple. You need to walk for just 30 minutes to reach the beach. | ||||||||
| (Back to destinations) El Junco Lagoon |
| Not only the largest freshwater lake in the Galapagos, Junco is the mouth of an extinct volcano full of water surrounded by abundant vegetation. From there you can see nearly all of San Cristobal island (including Punta Pitt and Kickers Rock). You can reach the lagoon by car. | ||||||||
| (Back to destinations) Lobos Island and Kickers Rock |
| Separated from San Crsitobal by a small channel, Lobos is a rocky and tiny island with a white sand beach where Blue Footed Boobies nest and Sea Lions sunbathe. León Dormido, or Kickers Rock, gets its name from its resemblance to a sleeping lion. You can practice scuba diving here. | ||||||||
| (Back to destinations) Punta Pitt |
| If you are a Boobie lover you have to make the trip to the eastermost point of the archipelago: Punta Pitt. Ubicated in the northeast corner of the island, the place is the home of Red Footed, Blue Footed and Masked Boobies. | ||||||||
| (Back to destinations) La Galapaguera |
| Another site in the mountains of San cristobal is La Galapaguera, which is located just down the shore from Punta Pitt. Like in the Tortoise Reserve, giant land tortoises can be found here, but they are not so easy to reach. The site is large and trails are badly marked. A guide is a must. | ||||||||
